2006 Petite Sirah

2006 Petite Sirah $35

An elegant, medium-bodied Petite Sirah, showing aromas of ripe, spicy, brambly fruit and rose petals, with dusty tannins and flavors of ripe black cherry, blueberry and white pepper.

"Excellent.  Patrick Spangler fought the law and won the right to go the P.S. route.  No longer must he label this wine as Durif.  His relief produced an aromatic reward of plums, black currants, black walnuts and Bing cherries.  It's more of the same sweet fruit on the big, yet plush, palate that showcases acidity rather than tannin.  Grill up a tri-tip or teriyaki-marinated flank steak." - Wine Press Northwest, Summer 2008

2006 Pinot Noir $18

Beautiful warm-climate Pinot Noir, rich and aromatic, showing scents of spicy cherry, plum and white pepper.  Mouth-filing ripe black cherry and strawberry flavors with a nice spicy finish that goes on and on.

"Excellent - Pat and Loree Spangler took over the old La Garza Cellars operation in the Umpqua Valley and have turned it into one of Southern Oregon's most exciting wineries.  They reached up into the Columbia Gorge for these grapes, which reveal elegance and density.  This wine opens with aromas of violets, cherries and sweet oak spices, followed by flavors of ripe cherries and smooth tannins.  This is a round, approachable wine." - Wine Press Northwest, Spring 2008

88 Points - Wine Enthusiast April 2008

"This is Oregon Pinot from the Columbia Gorge AVA.  This new region is still defining itself, but on first blush it's warmer, with more ripe, sweet strawberry fruit and very little of the herbal, resiny, tomato leaf character of most Oregon Pinots in this price range.  This is sweet, jammy, spicy and thick, with fruit compote flavors dominating."- P.G.

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon $24

Classic, old-style Cabernet with tight tannins and firm acidity.  Abundant currant and red cherry flavors throughout, finishing with a chewy but round mouthful of tannins.  Beautiful with your favorite steak now, while your remaining bottles will benefit from 3+ years of cellar aging!

"Recommended: Aromas of blackberries, earth, toast, tar and cedar wave you in for a closer look. Inside, the structure turns to flavors of pie cherries, Italian spices and nougat. The lighter style and youthful tannins should sidle up to a plate of spaghetti and meatballs. Three years of patience also should be rewarded."  - Wine Press Northwest, Spring 2008

2003 Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

2003 Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon $40

Old, gnarly vines.  Own-rooted and dry-farmed.  Less than one ton per acre.  Tiny, leathery berries.  Forty-six months in aged French barrels.  Ripe and earthy aromas of the vineyard at harvest.  Layers of currant, sage, mineral and cocoa on the palate. Terroir in a bottle!  Less than 100 cases produced.

"Excellent - Chicago native Patrick Spangler purchased La Garza Cellars in 2004, and these barrels were part of the inventory.  So, he decided to sit on them and see what happened.  After 46 months in barrel, he chose to sell them only through the tasting room.  The experiment results in aromas of blackberries, cherry vanilla and leaf tobacco, followed by flavors of more cherries.  It's a smooth, medium-bodied wine with a finish of mouth-coating cocoa and marshmallow flavors." - Wine Press Northwest, Spring 2008

2005 Merlot
